Content Needed: Because I Can Only Talk About Myself for So Long

It’s no secret. The organic reach on status updates posted from your Facebook fan page is beyond low. The twitter feed moves faster than I do when Michael Kors is having a sale. Entrepreneurs and small businesses are frustrated to say the least. I must hear “How am I supposed to keep my content fresh and appealing to consumers and attract my ideal client when there is only so much to say about my business?” a zillion times a month. Well, I’m going to tell you. It’s actually very simple but might be hard to hear. It’s not all about you! “But it’s my business that I’m trying to promote/market. What do you mean it’s not all about me?!?!” Yes. Yes, I know. You’ve probably heard me say this before but it’s worth repeating. Your social media platforms (be it Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn etc.) are merely a path to your website. The stepping stones are made of a mix of original content and curated content. Social media is where you build your know-like-trust factor. Your website is where you showcase your products and services. It’s where conversion happens; from consumer to customer. I like to say that your website is where the magic happens. Social media and it’s content is really for the benefit the readers. That is why the content should be 90% about them and 10% about you.  Some people go with 80/20 and others go with 95/5 but you get the point.
